UK launches first offshore floating wind tender

The UK's Crown Estate today [28 February 2024] launched 4.5GW Celtic Sea offshore wind tender.

This will be the first public tender process in the UK that is solely dedicated to floating offshore wind technology.
Celtic Sea will be Crown Estate's fifth offshore wind tender round.
On offer will be rights to three seabed plots, each with the capacity to accommodate 1.5GW of new generation.
The developers will be given the option to split up the 1.5GW capacity of each project development area to pursue multiple wind farms, subject to minimum and maximum project and phase capacity limits.
This is to allow developers to "tailor their project development strategy to match their risk appetite and investment objectives".
Formal notice will be published on Find a Tender service with preferred bidders slated to be announced before the end of March 2025.
