Sizewell C – private sector appetite for nuclear plants?

The UK government appears staunchly evangelical in its pursuit of delivering the beleaguered 3.2GW Sizewell C nuclear plant in Suffolk, England. However, the sentiment is not efficaciously embraced by the private sector or even the project's own developer, EDF Energy. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), as recently as this week [3 April 2024], reiterated its confidence in raising up to £6 billion in private funding to supplement the construction costs of the mammoth project, but investor interest remains lukewarm at best.
