Deal Analysis – Baltica 2 offshore wind farm
17 February, 2025
For Poland, the case for energy transition is more pressing than ever. Energy imports from Russia accounted for 35% of the country's energy mix in 2020, primarily oil and natural gas.
Despite this heavy dependency, Warsaw has been at the forefront of legislation pushes to tighten restrictions on Russia's fossil fuel exports to Europe.
While its imports from Moscow have fallen dramatically, Poland's challenges still remain, as the country relies on imports for a large share of its energy mix.
This is one of the reasons why the 1.5GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm has been hailed as a flagship step for Poland’s energy security. The project, a joint venture between Danish energy giant Orsted and Polish utility PGE, is expected to generate enough energy to power approximately 2.5 million households.
