The inspiratia Green Hydrogen Index ("GHI") is an analysis tool developed by inspiratia to assess how green hydrogen markets develop around the world based on consistent criteria. GHI uses a series of qualitative and quantitative measures to assess the status and outlook of the green hydrogen market in different jurisdictions, combining market activity with considerations such as policy and regulation, macroeconomic indicators, and geographic fundamentals.
The index provides insight on how active a country is and will be, both as a producer and a consumer of green hydrogen. In the lead up to The Hydrogen Decade Summit on 27 September 2022, inspiratia will analyse some of the biggest markets that are pioneering the production and utilisation of green hydrogen.
The UK is the second country to be assessed in inspiratia's green hydrogen index series. The UK's natural renewable resources both on and offshore, combined with advance industries in need of decarbonisation, put it in good stead for a balanced hydrogen economy of the future. The government has so far announced £345 million (€413m US$449m) in funding for its hydrogen transformation and hopes to unlock a further £4 billion (€4.79bn US$5.21bn) in private investment.
Adding to inspiratia's assessment is commentary from industry stakeholder Matthew Knight, Head of Market Development at Siemens Energy.
"Hydrogen is essential if we're going to get to NetZero, and in the UK, the industry needs to grow by at least four orders of magnitude this decade."
