In the latest episode of Energy Transition Today, we sit down with Ed Mountney, the investment manager of FGEN and director at Foresight Group.

FGEN – formerly JLEN – is among the few UK-listed “energy transition” funds that appear to have navigated the market turbulence over the past couple of years with relative grace, executing a mandate largely supported by its shareholders.

Mountney offers a perspective that looks beyond the hype cycle for traditional renewables and argues the case for the less publicised elements of the country’s energy transition.

FGEN wasn’t immune to market trends – in the past its diversification strategy included a licensed medicinal cannabis growing facility (story in podcast) – but it appears to differ in its approach to changing market conditions.

Mountney challenges preconceptions about some established renewable technologies and explains why popular doesn’t always mean profitable.

He also goes over future opportunities for FGEN, which may or may not include consolidation…
