Height restrictions and legislative backbiting: what is going on in Poland’s onshore wind market?
10 September, 2025
Eastern Europe is emerging as an investment hotspot for renewable energy – and Poland is leading the charge.
In our recent inspiratia H1 2025 league table, Poland ranked third overall for total financed capacity, at 4.5GW, well ahead of France, Spain, and Ireland. Only Germany and the UK financed more renewable projects in the first six months of the year.
Poland’s ranking was primarily buoyed by record wind investments, with the Baltica 2, Baltyk 2 and Baltyk 3 projects representing allocated transaction volumes of over $14 billion (£10.3bn €11.9bn). Geographically, these projects have acted as the primary driver of growth in the European offshore market.
Yet, while offshore has proven a magnet for investment, Poland is struggling to keep pace with other major European players in developing a comparatively robust onshore wind portfolio.
So, what is holding the sector back?
