In this week’s episode of Energy Transition Today, we slightly deviate from form to focus solely on deep dives. On the agenda are Ursula von der Leyen’s state of the union speech at the European Parliament and political machinations that essentially halted all onshore wind developments in Poland. In the first half, we break down von der Leyen’s vision for Europe’s energy independence and sovereignty. She emphasises the importance of reducing Europe’s dependence on imports and infrastructure upgrades to facilitate energy transition. We move on to Poland’s decade long war on onshore wind and why the country, which seems to be leading the way for other renewables build out in the CEE region, cannot seem to get behind this one asset class.
