Polish IPP GoldenPeaks bankruptcy update: Auction cancellation & Brookfield for the win with concessions to Berenberg
13 August, 2026
Canadian asset manager Brookfield has been cleared to take over embattled Polish renewables developer GoldenPeaks’ substantial portfolio after the US courts ruled to scrap the planned auction and waive the standard stay period.
Brookfield’s status as the buyer was formalised yesterday [12 August 2026] amidst claims by the administrator of GoldenPeaks’ Polish subsidiary that the company’s demise could be linked to “fraudulent” loans made to the parent company.
The development provides reprieve to most of the company’s debtors, who are owed over €1 billion, with Berenberg being the notable exception for opposing Brookfield’s takeover only to acquiesce later subject to certain conditions.
