Uniper’s 120MW Humber H2ub on track to submit planning application
Uniper's Humber H2ub green hydrogen production facility remains on track to submit planning permits in mid-2025.
According to a spokesperson from Uniper, they "anticipate submitting an application in the coming weeks".
The proposed project will seek funding under the UK government's Hydrogen Allocation Round Two (HAR2), a competitive government initiative designed to award Contracts for Difference (CfDs) supporting green or blue low-carbon hydrogen production.
Humber H2ub has been shortlisted to receive this subsidy, with final HAR2 decisions expected in 2026.
Located at Uniper's Killingholme site, Humber H2ub would produce green hydrogen through electrolytic processes. The initial phase of the project is planned at 120MW, with the potential to add an additional 80MW to expand the facility's output to 200MW via phase two build out.
Phillips 66 Limited owns and operates the Humber Refinery, which would utilise the green fuel produced to decarbonise its manufacturing process.
In March 2024, Uniper signed a collaboration agreement with Phillips 66 to work together towards supplying green hydrogen that will replace industrial refinery fuel.
The project is expected to support Phillips 66 Limited's plans to reduce Scope 1 emissions at the refinery by avoiding approximately 100,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The first phase of the facility is projected to become operational in 2029.
