In 2025, the UK lost two domestic jet fuel refineries while becoming overwhelmingly dependent on a single country for the feedstock underpinning its SAF mandate, the policy requiring a rising share of sustainable aviation fuel in UK jet fuel supply. Will the policies currently governing the framework successfully decouple the mandate from this dependency, or merely perpetuate it under a different guise?
