Scotland’s AI potential is finally recognised

In a move widely considered inevitable, the UK Government last month named North Lanarkshire, Scotland, as the country's next AI Growth Zone. With four zones already established across England and Wales, Lanarkshire brings something increasingly scarce in the AI growth race: surplus, low-carbon power. As renewable generation outpaces local demand, the region is emerging as a strategically advantaged location where compute-intensive growth can be scaled without straining the grid.
