EU raises the bar for data centre energy metrics

Europe's data centres have been benchmarked against two core metrics since mandatory disclosures began: how efficiently they use power, and how efficiently they use water. Neither measures the carbon intensity of that electricity at the hour of consumption, nor whether any generated heat was recovered. A draft electronic label, due for first issuance in August 2027, introduces both conditions alongside the originals.
